When we say Woodbridge, we mean the 22191, 22192 and 22193 ZIP codes, Dale City included. It’s an unincorporated part of Prince William County, so there’s no town line to go by.
Route 1 and Smoketown Road have grocers, convenience stores and restaurants packed close together. The grocers mostly use open multideck cases, and those behave differently from anything with a door.
Open display cases in grocery stores
An open case keeps product cold with a curtain of air that blows from the top of the case down to a return grille at the bottom. Anything that breaks up that air warms the case. The usual causes are boring ones: product stacked past the load line, a return grille blocked by price tags or plastic wrap, or a dirty coil underneath. A ceiling fan or an HVAC vent pointed at the case can do it too.
So if a case reads warm, check the load line first (it’s usually marked on the case) and clear the bottom grille.
Still warm after that? Then it needs a tech. Our display case repair page covers the mechanical side, and there’s a separate page for convenience stores and gas stations.
Restaurants near the outlet mall
In a busy restaurant around Potomac Mills or Prince William Parkway, the reach-ins and prep tables get opened constantly. If a prep table holds fine in the morning and drifts up by mid-afternoon, look at the lid and gaskets before anything else. There’s more on that on the prep table repair page.
