Frequently asked questions

Short answers to what people usually ask before they call.

If you want more detail on any of these, the guides go into more detail, and the services pages are broken down by equipment. If something’s warm right now, skip all this and get in touch.

Common questions

What kind of equipment do you work on?

Walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, ice machines, display cases, prep tables, bar and keg coolers, and the condensing units behind them. If it keeps product cold in a business, it's probably something we work on.

Do you fix home refrigerators?

No. We only do commercial work, so for a fridge at home you'd want a residential appliance repair company.

What parts of Northern Virginia do you cover?

Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington counties, plus Alexandria, Manassas and Manassas Park. If you're near the edge of that, call with the address and we'll tell you.

How soon can someone get here?

It depends on where the techs are when you call. You'll get an arrival window on the phone based on that.

Will I know the price before you fix anything?

Yes. The tech finds the problem, explains it and gives you a written price. Nothing gets repaired until you okay it.

Can you come out at night or on a weekend?

Emergency service is available after hours. Call the number on the page and tell us what's down.

My walk-in cooler says 44. Is that bad?

Virginia's food rules say cold food has to be held at 41 F or below, so yes, it's worth a call. Check the food itself with a probe thermometer too, because that's what an inspector looks at.

What should my freezer be running at?

0 F or colder is the usual target. If it's drifting up toward 10 or 15, something's off and it's worth having it looked at.

Do you offer maintenance plans?

Yes. Scheduled visits cover cleaning condenser coils, clearing drain lines, checking gaskets and fans and sanitizing ice machines, with a report after each one.

How often should an ice machine be cleaned?

Go by the manufacturer's manual, but many call for a full cleaning and sanitizing about every six months. Machines near a fryer or in a dusty spot usually need it sooner.

Should I repair my old unit or replace it?

It depends on the age, what failed, what refrigerant it uses and what the repair costs. When it's close, we'll write up both options and you decide.

My system runs on R-22. Is that a problem?

R-22 production in the US ended in 2020, so what's left is recycled or reclaimed and it costs more. A big leak on an R-22 system is often the point where replacement starts to make sense.

Will you do warranty repairs?

If your unit's under manufacturer warranty, the manufacturer may require their own authorized servicer, so check with them first. Once it's out of warranty, we're glad to take it.

What should I have ready when I call?

The address, what kind of unit it is, what the thermometer reads and what you've noticed. A photo of the model tag helps a lot.

Does someone need to be there for the visit?

Yes, ideally someone who knows what's been happening and can get the tech to the unit. If the condensing unit is on the roof or in a locked room, let us know ahead of time.

Can I keep the old parts?

Sure. Just ask before the repair and the tech will leave them with you.

Does insurance cover food we lose when a cooler fails?

Some business policies cover spoilage from equipment breakdown and some don't, so ask your agent. Our guide on product loss goes into it, and your service report and temp logs help with any claim.
